With all that is going on with regards to the Black Lives Matter movement and the country’s effort to flatten the curve for coronavirus, it is important to make sure that we take care of ourselves physically and mentally. Our mental health should be very important to us especially during a time of duress. While our emotions can inspire us to evoke change, our emotions are also very vulnerable during a time like this. MillennialToons along with an array of other card games have many benefits for our mental health that we may not be aware of.
For instance, card games can improve and stimulate our concentration and improve disciplinary skills. Card games have an objective, and to achieve an objective you need to have a certain level of focus that will automatically allow you to strengthen decision-making skills. This can do wonders to improve your mental health because training your mind to focus on a game can be a healthy temporary distraction to any stress that the world is causing you right now. Remember, distractions are good to indulge in now and then in order to maintain peace of mind.
Furthermore, card games can boost your social skills and increase the stamina you have for social interaction. If you’re an introvert like me, the mental energy you have for talking and holding a conversation with people tends to be limited. Additionally, during the lockdown, our comfort with enjoying our own company has allowed us to further decrease our social stamina. Playing card games every once and a while maybe the answer to improving our social meter. If you hang out with friends (the virus is still very much a thing so three to four people will do) to just chill and play a card game together, not only are you exercising your brain but you are exercising your conversational ability which can be extremely beneficial. You will never run out of things to talk about because the focus of the discussion with your friends will be surrounding the game. Furthermore, nostalgic card games such as MillennialToons can boost convos that relate to the memories you’ve had with an old TV show or movie.
Finally, this is a simple and easy way to take care of your mind and give it some love. Mental health is never something you should take for granted so take measures to mentally wind down.
